Week 4 Voice-leading chords

Image
Lesson 2 Voice Leading Rules Parallel unisons and octaves are forbidden.  Parallel fifths are forbidden.   Never double the Leading Tone.  Never double a sharpened or flattened tone in a chord.   Never double the seventh of a seventh chord, the ninth of a ninth chord, etc. Dominant Chords The dominant function chord is any triad that can take the place of the dominant chord to expand the tonic area and in the middle or even at the beginning of the piece like a dominant chord can. E.g. the dominant 7 chord and seventh chords both start with the leading tone.  Here is a video explaining this week's topic Below is a video of myself demonstrating this week's topic

Embellishing Tones Lesson 1

Embellishing Tones When embellishing a suspension, decorate the dissonant suspended tone rather than the tone of resolution. When writing a suspension in three or more voices, plan the doubling in the chord of resolution first, so that the resolved note isn't doubled in that chord. 9-8 suspensions are an exception to the rule. Passing and Neighbor tones can be written in any voice and are usually accented in loud four parts. Embellishing Tones pitches form outside the underlying harmony decorating chords tones using passing tones, neighbor tones, or suspensions.  Non-Chordal Tones Below is  a video of me performing the above piece with and without embellishing tones.
